Cuadrillas bear brunt of attempt to make novilladas financially viable

Further to developments I wrote about in May and September 2021, earlier this month it was announced that the Foro de Defensa de las Novilladas, which is essentially concerned about putting on novilladas in 3rd and 4th class bullrings, has now reached an agreement with a broad range of taurine entities aimed at making such novilladas more financially viable.

ANOET (representing empresas), UT (representing novilleros), UNPBE (representing picadors and banderilleros), ASNAME (representing mozos de espadas), la Unión General de Trabajadores (UGT) and the Confederación Sindical de Comisiones Obreros (CCOO) have all now signed up to a 25% reduction in cuadrilla members’ earnings in Foro members’ novilladas.

In return, the Foro and ANOET have agreed that novilleros, jefes de cuadrillas and cuadrillas that do not meet the legal obligations of the Convenio Colectivo Nacional Taurino will be banned from appearing in their bullrings.

It is hoped that this agreement will lead to further general promotion of la Fiesta and an increase in the numbers of novilladas con and sin picadores in 3rd and 4th class plazas. The empresas have agreed to review ticket prices and to offer under-14s free entry to such events.
